April 5-6

We made it! After a long day of travel (met at the airport at 4 am), we arrived in Quito. Our flights were fine, no delays. Immigration and customs went smoothly (a little hectic with 22 checked bags plus our carry-ons). We were met at the airport by Brad and Sandi (and Gina, a new member of Youth World). It was great to see familiar, smiling faces. Our bus brought us to the hostel which will be our home in Quito. After time for fellowship and a brief introduction to our week, it was time to head to bed for some much needed rest...looking forward to the next day.

(Technology seems to be the great dividing issue onthe team, some are more techno than others)

Tuesday is orientation and altitude adjustment day. Quito is at 9200 ft, with lots of hills and steps. A lot like San Fransisco. After breakfast at the hostel, we headed over to the Youth World offices. We received an orientation explaining the history and the various missions that make up Youth World. We then went to visit colonial downtown Quito, to see the main plaza, the Presidential Palace, City Hall, and toured the Basilica. We climbed steps to the top of the clock/bell tower at the Basilica (the guide said it was 178 meters high). We certainly felt the effects of the altitude, even the younger members of our group.

We are attempting to figure out how to blog, so hopefully tomorrow´s will be better/easier. Thank you to everyone for your prayers.
